Flaherty
Iron Works was started in 1976 by Francis X.
Flaherty. Flaherty whose ancestors owned an iron works
shop in Northwest Washington, D.C. during the Civil
War grew up in Washington, D.C. and suburban Maryland.
He had an interest in iron work since he was a teenager.
He was a firefighter for the District of Columbia fire
department for 23 years during which he worked part
time in iron work. After he retired he was able to devote
full time to the metal working business. Flaherty's
top priorities are attention to detail and quality craftsmanship.
He is a member of The National Ornamental and Miscellaneous
Metal Association, The American Welding Society, the
Artist Blacksmith Association of North America, and
the Blacksmith’s Guild of the Potomac. Articles
about Flaherty Iron Works have been featured in various
publications including, Interior Design magazine, The
Washington Post, The Washington Times, the Fabricator
magazine and the Journal of the American Welding Society.
